Keynote: Building “The Perfect Bootstrapped” Business on WordPress

Jason Cohen is the founder and CTO of WP Engine, a managed WordPress platform. WP Engine is his 4th startup and currently numbers 350 employees serving over 50,000 customers around the world. This talk will explore, from Jason’s background as an engineer and repeat entrepreneur, what it takes to build a WordPress business with millions in revenue. He will specifically drill down on lessons learned from his experiences and how to build the “perfect bootstrapped business” – meaning one that predictably generates recurring revenue with an annual prepaid model in a huge market.

Jason Cohen, Founder and CTO of WP Engine is a UT alumni from the class of 2000 and has been helping found innovative companies ever since. As both an entrepreneur and mentor, he is an advocate for both creating and fostering talent in the Austin community. WP Engine has gone through three rounds of funding and is has emerged as the premium, highly-managed hosting service for websites and apps built with WordPress. Prior to WP Engine, Jason also helped found Smart Bear Inc and Sheer Genius Software.
