Before you React

This session has two awesome co-presenters.

When we first decided to embark upon a second plugin together, we thought, “Let’s build something really cool. And use the API! And React.js! We’re smart people. We’ll just learn it all in an afternoon.” Little did we know that you can’t just learn React because it’s tied into all kinds of other tools and technologies. And online tutorials were more confusing than helpful because they all used different conventions and even contradicted one another.

After several false starts, a lot of time spent traveling down wrong paths, and a whole lot of defeat and frustration, we finally hit our stride and figured out how to learn what we didn’t even know we needed to learn. In this talk, we’ll discuss all the skills and technologies you have to learn before you dive into React. And we’ll talk about best practices and everything we’ve learned by putting React to work. We’ll cover EcmaScript 6, Node, Babel, Webpack, Flux and Redux. And we’ll also talk about the things that led us astray that we learned to avoid.
